Minister of Social Affairs Encourages Boat Racers to Prioritize Health


Prey Veng – The Minister of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation, H.E Chea Somethy and H.E Chea Phalkun, presided over the Water Festival Boat Race, which began on the morning of October 28, 2023, along the riverbanks of Prey Veng City, in front of the provincial hall.

Addressing the gathering, Minister H.E Chea Somethy offered advice to all boat racers to prioritize their health.

His Excellency Chea Somethy emphasized the importance of maintaining good health, especially in the evenings when participants often indulge in drinking beer. He warned that excessive drinking could lead to health issues, potentially affecting their ability to compete effectively.

The Minister expressed gratitude to the Prey Veng Provincial Administration for organizing the event, providing an opportunity for the people of Prey Veng to visit and enjoy the festivities.

The Prey Veng Provincial Administration has arranged a two-day boat race, taking place from October 28 to 29, 2023, along the riverside of Prey Veng City, with the participation of 58 boats. In addition to the races, the provincial administration has planned fireworks, concerts, and booths showcasing various products.

Cambodia has a long-standing tradition of celebrating the Water Festival annually. The festival typically extends for three days, with the main activities occurring on the Chaktomuk River and in other areas. The festivities also include the release of floating lanterns and moon-worship ceremonies held at midnight on the second day of the festival.
