Phnom Penh, November 10, 2023 – His Excellency Chea Somethy, the Minister of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation, Accompanied Prime Minister Hun Manet in commemorating the 28th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Special Forces Command in Phnom Penh on a Friday morning.
During the ceremony, Prime Minister Hun Manet addressed pressing concerns related to the evolving nature of warfare, marked by transnational crime, technology-driven conflicts, and terrorism. In response, he issued a directive to the armed forces, emphasizing the need to enhance their capabilities for this new era of warfare.
While traditional warfare’s influence on Cambodia currently seems limited, there is an increasing awareness of the emergence of a new form of warfare that includes elements of transnational crime, terrorism, and technological warfare.
“In the past, our primary focus was on preparing for conventional warfare, but now we must anticipate and prepare for a new kind of warfare, which includes disaster relief measures,” emphasized Prime Minister Hun Manet.
He urged all troops to strengthen their capabilities, with a specific emphasis on modernizing their defense and technological proficiencies. This strategic shift is designed to ensure Cambodia’s readiness for future challenges, reinforcing the nation’s resilience in the face of these emerging threats.
