Phnom Penh, November 21, 2023 – H.E Em Chan Makara, Secretary of State and Secretary General of the Disability Action Council, representing H.E Chea Somethy, Minister of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation, led a strategic meeting in the afternoon to coordinate preparations for the upcoming National and International Day of People with Disabilities. The event, themed ‘Innovative Solutions for an Accessible and Equitable Society,’ is slated for December 4, 2023, and will be graced by the esteemed presence of Prime Minister Samdech Hun Manet.
During the meeting, H.E Em Chan Makara highlighted the extensive planning underway, with the Disability Action Council establishing various committees for seamless execution. These include the Sub-Committee on Outreach, the Sub-Committee on Protocol and Hospitality, the Sub-Committee on Security and Public Order, the Sub-Committee on Exhibitions and Arts, and the Sub-Committee on Resources.
Underlining the significance of the occasion, H.E Em Chan Makara noted that Cambodia celebrates the Day of Persons with Disabilities as a poignant remembrance of the profound impact of the Pol Pot genocidal regime. This dark period in history has left lasting consequences, resulting in not only individuals with disabilities but also widows and orphans.
