Minister Chea Somethy Accompanies Samdech Hun Manet to Friends of Asia Pacific WAGGGS 7th General Assembly “Imagine the Possibilities”

Siem Reap – On the morning of Sunday, November 5, 2023, H.E Chea Somethy, Minister of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation, joined Samdech Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, at the inauguration of the 7th General Assembly of Friends of Asia Pacific WAGGGS, themed “Imagine the Opportunity.”

During the event, Prime Minister Samdech Hun Manet emphasized the importance of women in leadership roles, stating that a world with more women leaders would be more enchanting and warmer. He urged the active involvement of women and girls in various social activities, highlighting the need to foster courage and promote women’s roles in society.

He addressed the challenges faced by women worldwide, including social, traditional, and economic barriers, and the lack of awareness that restricts their self-development and social engagement. Samdech Hun Manet stressed that these limitations result in a loss of valuable, sustainable human resources for society.

To address these issues, the Royal Government of Cambodia has made gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls a top priority in its policy agenda. This commitment is reflected in the first phase of the Pentagon strategy, aimed at fostering a highly civilized society characterized by morality, equity, and a central role for women.

Prime Minister Samdech Hun Manet reiterated Cambodia’s dedication to supporting the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, particularly the Girl Guides Association of Cambodia. This support is directed toward empowering women and girls in Cambodia, enabling them to build better futures and become invaluable assets for the nation.
