Phnom Penh: On Tuesday morning, October 3, 2023, H.E Em Chan Makara, the Representative of H.E Chea Somethy, Minister of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation, attended a gathering with workers at community factories in Khan Dangkor and Khan Meanchey, Phnom Penh. The event was presided over by Samdech Hun Manet, the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia.
This gathering took place in Khan Meanchey, Phnom Penh, and drew a crowd of 18,099 attendees, which included 689 pregnant women from 22 factories. Among these factories were 18 garment factories, 2 travel product and bag factories, 1 shoe factory, and 1 umbrella factory.
During the event, His Excellency Hun Manet highlighted the following points related to the Ministry of Social Affairs:
- The Royal Government’s implementation of the social assistance system, which provides cash support to pregnant women, children under 2 years of age, poor and vulnerable families during the fight against Covid-19, and families severely affected by floods.
- The successful rescue mission carried out by the Cambodian Embassy in Laos, saving six Cambodian women who had been deceived by criminals to work in Bake province, Laos.
Prime Minister Hun Manet directed all ministries and institutions to thoroughly investigate issues (inactive cases) before bringing them to the attention of ministers or heads of institutes. He emphasized the importance of promptly and carefully addressing these matters, and he encouraged relevant ministries and institutions to work collaboratively without requiring the Prime Minister to personally address the issue.
Prime Minister Hun Manet revealed that he stays well-informed with the news and challenges faced by the people on a daily basis, often working into the late hours of the night to follow the news.
He clarified that he receives comprehensive information but refrains from directly intervening in the internal processes of institutions. Instead, he adopts a strategy of oversight and guidance, entrusting professional units to review, explain, and interpret cases. He emphasized that this is his political approach which requires professional units to take responsibility for their work and to provide explanations to the public.
He affirmed his continuous vigilance, stating that even if he does not address issues personally, he will closely monitor their progress, expecting relevant authorities to address them effectively.
Prime Minister Hun Manet emphasized that a multitude of issues have come under his scrutiny, ranging from tax matters to concerns over plagiarism related to Angkor Wat and complaints from residents in various provinces. In all cases, he has afforded relevant institutions the opportunity to resolve these issues and provide explanations to the public.
Moreover, Prime Minister H.E. Hun Manet underscored the forthcoming introduction of new measures related to tax break for business owners. He noted that he had contemplated this tax issue since the inception of his term, awaiting the opportune moment for implementation.
He assured that the new government will not create new taxes or raise existing taxes.
