Phnom Penh: On Wednesday, October 4, 2023, H.E. Sok Buntha, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation, participated in the National Consultation Workshop on Early Warning for All in Cambodia. This workshop aimed to collectively identify key challenges and establish long-term technical priorities for enhancing the Early Warning System (EWS) in Cambodia. These efforts will ultimately contribute to the development of a strategic roadmap for implementation spanning from 2024 to 2027.
The workshop was led by His Excellency Hang Samoeun, the Personal Adviser to the Prime Minister, who is also the Second Vice President of the National Committee for Disaster Management, representing His Excellency Kun Kim, the Senior Minister and First Vice President, as well as Mr. Jo Scheuer, the UN Resident Coordinator in Cambodia. The workshop took place at the Sofitel Phnom Penh Phokeethra Hotel.
During the workshop, discussions centered around various aspects of the Early Warning for All (EW4ALL) initiative, including four key pillars:
Pillar 1: Risk Awareness
Pillar 2: Forecasting, Observation, Monitoring
Pillar 3: Communication and Outreach
Pillar 4: Prevention and Response
In attendance were representatives from relevant ministries, institutions, UN agencies, technical experts and collaborating organizations such as the World Food Program, UNDRR, World Meteorological Organization, ITU, IFRC, as well as national and international organizations.
