Phnom Penh – On the afternoon of November 7, 2023, Mr. Theng Chhorvirith, Deputy Director of the General Department of Social Services and a representative of the Technical Working Group on Human Rights from the Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation, participated in a meeting to present the report for the fourth round of the UPR. This meeting involved relevant ministries and institutions reviewing the recommendations put forth by these entities to the Cambodian Human Rights Committee in response to the UN Human Rights Committee. The meeting was held at the Office of the Cambodian Human Rights Commission, chaired by H.E. Ith Rady, Vice Chairman of the Cambodian Human Rights Committee.

The Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation’s recommendations to the Cambodian Human Rights Committee encompass several key areas, including combating human trafficking (Recommendation 6), addressing violence against women and children (Recommendation 8), improving juvenile justice (Recommendation 12), and promoting disability rights (Recommendation 13). For each of these recommendations, the Ministry has outlined strategic plans, policies, legislative frameworks, resource allocation, budgets, and implementation strategies.
